چکیده

A special type of ITS, called Problem-oriented Tutoring System (PTS), has been designed to train the skill of solving mathematical interpolation problems, i.e. problems, in which a start state has to be transformed into a goal state by stepwise applications of operators from a given operator set. Classes of interpolation problems occur in many subject areas of the mathematics curriculum in Secondary Schools. Examples are the transformation of arithmetic and algebraic terms, the solving of equations and the solving of geometric proof problems. Because some modules of an PTS are domain independent and a PTS needs only a rather simple student model, the costs for development are comparatively low. The concept of a PTS is explained and exemplified with reference to the tutorial systems GEOPROOF and GEOCON, developed and completely implemented by the author to support the solving of geometrical proof and construction problems. First classroom experiences with GEOPROOF are reported.

A Case-Based Methodology for Planning Individualized Case Oriented Tutoring

Case oriented tutoring gives students the possibility to practice their acquired theoretical knowledge in the context of concrete cases. Accordingly, tutoring systems for individualized learning have to take the skills of students at applying their knowledge to problem solving into account. This paper describes a case-based methodology for planning tutoring processes depending on the skills of ...

Docs 'n drugs-the virtual polyclinic: an intelligent tutoring system for web-based and case-oriented training in medicine

Since the beginning of the year 2000 medical students of the University of Ulm are working in their curriculum with the web-based and case-oriented tutoring system "Docs 'n Drugs - The Virtual Polyclinic". The system consists of different subsystems and services. One subsystem is the Training System. It is based on three models: the Tutoring Process Model, the Case Knowledge Model and the Medic...

A New Approach for Knowledge Based Systems Reduction using Rough Sets Theory (RESEARCH NOTE)

Problem of knowledge analysis for decision support system is the most difficult task of information systems. This paper presents a new approach based on notions of mathematical theory of Rough Sets to solve this problem. Using these concepts a systematic approach has been developed to reduce the size of decision database and extract reduced rules set from vague and uncertain data. The method ha...

VIBRANT: A Brainstorming Agent for Computer Supported Creative Problem Solving

This paper describes key issues underlying the design of a tutoring system that brainstorms with students in order to support qualitative problem solving. Cognitively oriented and socially oriented support are enabled by two technologies, namely heuristic-based feedback generation and community-datadriven social recommendation. Formal representations and corresponding automated reasoning proced...

Generating Case Oriented Intelligent Tutoring Systems

There are many ways to use cxpel’t systems for teaching problem solving. The use of existing knowledge bases can help to reduce the cost of building new systems. We introduce an approach to use knowledge bases for classification problems as a domain model for intelligent tutoring systems. Most of the -"’" exastmg tutoring systems, that are really used in practice, are based on hypertext techniq...
